I got interested in Osteopathy because my husband had fractured his neck as a teenager and had three fused vertebrae. He was in constant pain for years and had tried many types of therapy for pain relief. Osteopathy was the treatment that not only relieved his chronic pain but also improved his ability to move and have more energy. Because of the improvements that I saw in my husband’s pain relief and health, I completed Osteopathy studies and graduated from the Canadian Academy of Osteopathy with over 1,000
hours of supervised clinical practice. I am a member of OstCan and have worked in Blyth, Ontario, Burlington and now Waterdown, where I work at Waterdown Physiotherapy.

Osteopathy uses manual therapy to help the body’s tight and stretched tissues to gently move back into a position of ease. This is done gradually with the result that there is less strain and consequently less pain. Reduced pain coupled with pain that occurs less often brings a lot of relief and allows for better
movement for the body. Better motion allows for better health, which means that you feel better. For a quick explanation of Osteopathy, please view the one-and-a-half-minute video below.
Osteopathy has three main principles:
- First, the body is a dynamic unit of function meaning that everything in the body is connected and the parts work in an interdependent way. Your foot bone actually is connected to your skull via soft tissues.
- Second, the body is capable of maintaining and healing itself. Sometimes with postural issues, accidents and aging, the body needs some help in dealing with strain and injury. Osteopathy can help with that by gently taking strain off stretched tissues resulting in less pain.
- Third, the structure of the body determines the function. Your arm can move the way it does because of the shape of the bones and the muscles and ligaments specific to the arm. The shoulder, spine, ribs, clavicle and pelvis are all attached to your arm, and so a practitioner of Osteopathy assesses the patient’s whole body when the patient arrives with, for example, a sore arm.
All of these principles are taken into consideration as an Osteopathic practitioner assesses and treats a patient. It truly is a holistic practice of healing.

On your first appointment, we will review your detailed health history. This is to make sure that it is safe to treat you with manual Osteopathy therapy. The appointment will last approximately 45 minutes.
Following appointments are 20-30 minutes long as I continue to reassess and treat you and make manual adjustments so that your body’s tissues can work well. You should feel less discomfort and pain and have pain less often as your body works its way back to a more normal alignment.
